WHAT IS OUR RESPONSE TO GOD IN THE MIDST OF THIS? (II)

Today's Bible Reading

  • Proverbs 3:5-6

5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. 6In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.

  • Psalm 91:1-16

1He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will abide in the shadow of the Almighty. 2I will say to the Lord, “My refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.” 3For he will deliver you from the snare of the fowler and from the deadly pestilence. 4He will cover you with his pinions, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness is a shield and buckler. 5 You will not fear the terror of the night, nor the arrow that flies by day, 6nor the pestilence that stalks in darkness, nor the destruction that wastes at noonday. 7A thousand may fall at your side, ten thousand at your right hand, but it will not come near you. 8You will only look with your eyes and see the recompense of the wicked. 9Because you have made the Lord your dwelling place— the Most High, who is my refuge— 10 no evil shall be allowed to befall you, no plague come near your tent. 11 For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways. 12On their hands they will bear you up, lest you strike your foot against a stone. 13You will tread on the lion and the adder; the young lion and the serpent you will trample underfoot. 14“Because he holds fast to me in love, I will deliver him; I will protect him, because he knows my name. 15When he calls to me, I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will rescue him and honor him. 16With long life I will satisfy him and show him my salvation.”

  • Romans 14:7-8

7For none of us lives to himself, and none of us dies to himself. 8For if we live, we live to the Lord, and if we die, we die to the Lord. So then, whether we live or whether we die, we are the Lord’s.

  • Philippians 4:4-9

4 Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice. 5Let your reasonableness be known to everyone. The Lord is at hand; 6do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. 7And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. 8Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. 9What you have learned and received and heard and seen in me—practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you.

Devotional and Prayer

Like a tender Shepherd, God cares for us like we are sheep. He knows what we need when we need it. He knows where we need to go. Even when danger surrounds us, he defends us. Will we be sheep who try and run away, or will we follow his tender leading? (Psalm 23:1-6)

We can trust God in the midst of great turmoil with confidence that he will do what is right. Whether we live or whether we die, he is trustworthy.

In our love for safety, we may think that the greatest thing in life is security, but this Psalm shows us that there are far greater things. May God show us the greatest blessings in life and reveal true, supernatural joy. (Psalm 16:1-11)

In this life, you will have anxiety and you will have worry. Experiencing the emotion of anxiety isn’t necessarily wrong, but if you don’t know what to do with it when you experience it you can be paralyzed. God makes it very clear what we need to do with all of our worries.
