Day 8 - Romans 8

What is salvation? Why do I need to be saved if I am living well? The term 'salvation' is abstract to many people, and they cannot imagine the reason why they need to be saved. Similarly, for many Christians, salvation is also abstract. Many Christians may find the statement “if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” Is easy to say, but the actual meaning of salvation is quite vague.

When we examine the Bible, we find a concrete answer - true salvation refers to the ‘resurrection of the body,' which Paul calls ‘the redemption of our bodies.’ When we believe in Jesus, we are able to 'reconcile with God' and return to the state of Adam at the beginning of creation. That is a state where one can choose to obey or disobey God. This is already a significant difference, because those who do not believe in Jesus cannot obey God at all. But even when we believe in Jesus, reconcile with God, and regain the ability to obey God, it is still possible for us to sin. This is the experience of many Christians.

Why do we still sin even though we have believed in Jesus? The biggest reason is that we still live in our fleshly bodies. Therefore, Paul says, ‘but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies.' Our groaning will not cease until the day we receive a whole new body. In this waiting time, the Holy Spirit also ‘intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words.’

Let us pray in the Holy Spirit, and not stop loving God while the Holy Spirit continuously intercedes for us. ‘For those who love God all things work together for good.’ What is the best thing for those who love God? It is to receive a resurrected body that will never sin, just like Jesus, whom we love.
