我们会因何事感到快乐呢？世人都为取悦自己而活，但基督徒应该「以神为乐」。当我们借着主耶稣与上帝和好，使我们感到欢喜的事物就应该要有所变化──唯有上帝的荣耀是值得我们欢喜盼望的。

从「以世界为乐」到「以神为乐」，不是一条容易的路，会经历患难生忍耐、忍耐生老练、老练生盼望的过程，这是一趟纪律的修练。在这过程中，是谁使我们坚持下去？是谁使我们的盼望不致于落空呢？是圣灵，祂把上帝的爱浇灌在我们心里，使我们在患难中还能够欢喜快乐──这就是基督徒应该有的人生态度。

上帝的爱不只是借着圣灵浇灌在我们心里，赐给我们「内心的喜乐」，上帝的爱更是一件「历史的事实」。上帝的爱远超过一般的爱。人世间最大的爱莫如「为义人死」，只有上帝的爱才会「为罪人死」，就是为了那些不荣耀祂，也不感谢祂的人，牺牲了祂的独生子耶稣。

上帝的爱是有目的的，为了使我们现在能与祂「和好」，并且在将来能够「得救」──免去将来的审判。同样，基督徒的爱也要为着一个更崇高的目的去爱，那就是带领人与上帝和好，免去将来的审判。

What makes us happy? People in the world live to please themselves, but Christians should rejoice in God. When we reconcile with God through Jesus Christ, the things that bring us joy should change - “We rejoice in hope of the glory of God.”

Moving from "rejoicing in this world" to "rejoicing in God" is not an easy path, it involves a process of “suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope”. It is a journey of discipline. In this process, who helps us to persevere? Who keeps our hope from being disappointing? It is the Holy Spirit who pours God's love into our hearts, enabling us to rejoice even in difficult times - this is the attitude that Christians should have in life.

God's love is not just poured into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, giving us "inner joy", but it is also a "historical fact". God's love far surpasses human love. The greatest love in the world is to "die for a righteous person", but only God's love "die for sinners". He sacrificed His only son, Jesus, for those who do not honour Him or thank Him.

God's love has a purpose, which is to reconcile us with Him now and to be saved from future judgment. Likewise, Christian love must also have a higher purpose, which is to lead people to reconcile with God and be saved from future judgment.
