当我们信主之后，我们内在的生命己经与主同死同复活。纵使外在仍然是会死的肉身，但我们已经如同孩童渐渐长大，学会穿衣服的技巧，穿上「新人」的衣服、穿上「怜悯、恩慈、谦虚、温柔和忍耐」的衣服、穿上「爱心」的衣服。

基徒的新生命要有这些衣服当做记号，好像穿上学生制服一样，让人一看见就知道我们是属基督的。当我们学会穿上这些衣服之后，基督会在祂再来的时候，把我们会死的肉身转变为荣耀的身体，「与祂一同在荣耀里显现」（3:4）。

保罗用穿衣服来形容基督徒的新生命应该如何长进。如同生命是从上帝而来，穿衣服的「能力」是上帝给的，但穿衣服的「技巧」是要自己练习的。穿衣服的相反就是「赤身露体」，如果我们不穿上这些德行的衣服，我们就好像是曝露在赤身露体的羞耻中。

这穿衣服的比喻反应在「肉体情欲的洁净」、「教会里的爱心」、「家庭中的和谐」这三件事情上。不完美的人需要上帝所赐的衣服，上帝也已经预备好衣服了。请问你穿上了吗？你是否已经穿得熟练，穿出上帝的荣美了呢？

After we believe in the Lord, our inner life has died and resurrected with Him. Even though our outer body is still mortal, like a child growing up and learning how to put on clothes, we learn to put on the "new self" clothes, the clothes of "compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience", and the clothes of "love".

The new life of a Christian should have these clothes as a symbol, like wearing a school uniform, so that people can see that we belong to Christ. When we learn to put on these clothes, Christ will transform our mortal bodies into glorious bodies when He comes again, and we will appear with him in glory. (3:4)

Paul uses the metaphor of clothing to describe how a Christian's new life should grow. Just as life comes from God, the "ability" to put on clothes is given by God, but the "skill" to put on clothes well must be practiced by oneself. The opposite of putting on clothes is being "naked", and if we do not put on these virtues as clothes, we are like being exposed in shame.

This clothing metaphor is reflected in three things: "purity of the fleshly desires", "love in the church", and "harmony in the family". Imperfect people need the clothes given by God, and God has already prepared the clothes. Have you put them on? Have you become skilled at putting on the beauty of God?
