Day 26 | Ephesians 4

If Christianity had a "constitution," it might be the book of Ephesians. Ephesians is the document closest to the Gospel proclamation that we can obtain, with the first three chapters discussing "doctrine" and the last three chapters discussing "walk." The term "walk" appears frequently starting in chapter four, indicating that our response to knowing doctrine should be to live it out (rather than just teaching others).

Regarding the “walk” of Christians, Paul first discusses humility. We should walk in humility because it is the secret to unity. Without humility, the unity of Christians cannot be achieved, as pride will destroy it.

Humility means "knowing the real self." If we hear someone talking behind our backs, we don't need to get angry, we just need to remember that if they really knew the "real us," they might say even worse things.

What kind of person did Paul know himself to be? In the book of 1 Timothy, he said that he is the worst of sinners. Politeness on the surface is not humility, real humility is understanding what kind of person I am today, all thanks to God's grace. Without His grace, I don't know what kind of situation I would be in today.
