Day 21 | Galatians 5

The purpose of Jesus Christ coming into the world is to set us free, because in our entire lives we have never truly been free. The freedom we have is merely the freedom to sin, and we have never had the freedom to become saints (justified).

Where does the freedom to become a saint come from? It comes from Jesus Christ. Paul told the Galatian church, "You are severed from Christ, you who would be justified by the law; you have fallen away from grace." (Galatians 5:4). If you want to become a saint by doing good works, you are severed from Christ, who has set us free. Because the freedom to become a saint is not obtained through "efforts," but through "faith." If you do not believe, you can try your whole life to see what the outcome will be.

"For freedom Christ has set us free" (Galatians 5:1). You must believe in this! Because when you believe, Jesus initiates the process of setting you free, so that you can obtain the freedom to become a saint. That is to be "led by the Spirit" (Galatians 5:18), to "live by the Spirit, and keep in step with the Spirit" (Galatians 5:25), and bear "the fruit of the Spirit" - love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control (Galatians 5:22).

Furthermore, Paul says, " The only thing that counts is faith expressing itself through love." (Galatians 5:6, NIV). If your faith is genuine, it will be accompanied by "love." Faith that does not produce love is not true Christian faith! Those who truly believe in Jesus cannot help but feel grateful for everything He has done for us. If you understand gratitude, you will love.

There is a type of belief that is purely intellectual. Perhaps you are familiar with everything about Christianity, and you can answer any question about faith, but you lack love. However, true faith is always accompanied by gratitude, and when you are grateful, you will love Him. Jesus was crucified on the cross for your sins, are you deeply grateful for this?
